Working from home under a stay home order since March, stay home order until June 5th, but 9pm curfew since May 31st. This is the longest time I’ve ever gone without travel, finally had to do a weekend somewhere.
I may regret it, but that somewhere wound up being Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania. The reason: I’ve never been here before, I’m a sucker for historic buildings, especially old hotels, and this part of PA is solidly green. Everything is open, at somewhat reduced capacity, and everyone is carrying on with their business as usual, no obvious signs of pandemic or civil unrest.
The hotel is a creaky old relic from the end of the 19th century. Clearly has what you might call good bones and potential, but is in desperate need of fresh paint and new carpets and furniture, very dingy and worn, basically everywhere you look. Hardly anything’s been done to it since at least the 90s, probably including deep cleaning.
At least I have a view.

Water is good. I’ve been putting together a photo book, and it seems like at least half of my favorite photos are water-related.

It would be a lot of fun with a boat. Pretty lake, there's a little sandy beach area and a tiki bar, and the hotel isn't totally without its charms. Makes me wish I had the money to buy it, plus a few hundred k more to give it a good spit shine, could be pretty nice with not that much work.

You may kiss the bride then slowly promenade past the ominously foreboding fiberglass shark holding stead over the constant slick of oil and other foreign substances.
Con at lake, lulzy.

I love really old hotels but I have a special place in my heart for roadside motels of the 40s-50s. I really want to buy one when I “retire” and see if I can make it a nice enough place that people want to come back.

There's some of those around here, too, but most of them seem to be abandoned.

This place most certainly looks better at dusk

Don’t mind me over here amusing myself with wisecracks.
Enjoy your me time outside the house on what I presume to be a lovely lake.
